Perspectives of wireless technology

July 3, 2005 07:05 PM EST | Wireless | Email to Friend

It's obvious to anyone with technical savvy, that our worldis going wireless. We need only look at LANs, Bluetooth, and cellular to see the trend. Wireless is rapidly giving us faster connectivity and expanding our networking capabilities. It's very exciting to think about, becaus ewe~re only just getting started. The future of wireless is a bright one indeed.

By 2010 the wireless market in Europe will be worth about $160 billion, half of which will be in data transmission and storage. Wireless technology is exploding and we will see more bundled software at lower costs.

The focus on the current and future wireless technology will be the mindset of "anywhere, anytime." With today's society being so fast paced, people need a way to stay mobile "anywhere and anytime." This means being able to check emails via a cell phone while attending a child's baseball game or working on a laptop computer in a hotel without the need to connect with wiring.

The World Wide Web and the Internet have already drastically changed our lives. With wireless, we can use all the same features and more, without having to use wires for connection. Besides wireless data capabilities, people want to be able to make all their financial transactions with their cell phones. These would include payments, money transfers, and looking up account balances.

It was just a few years ago when customers were showing great interest in ways of extending the Web's portable management infrastructure so sales forces were automated and more productive. The sales industry needed a way of gaining access quickly without being strapped to an office. With wireless access, sales forces around the globe got this and more. In addition to using their phone for conversations, they can book schedules, send price quotes, order supplies, and you name it.

Today, we see all types of business being conducted via wireless technology. In fact, security, ranging from authentication to encryption and even detection is critical to wireless. With this type of technology, you see end-to-end security that goes from cell phones into gateways. While wireless has changed the way in which we conduct business and pleasure, we can expect to see many more offerings in the very near future.
