The prions can build up in the brain and cause nerve cell damage. This transmission of BSE between cattle is a result of feeding infected animal protein to otherwise health cows.

The cattle used to produce transfer factor are isolated and used exclusively for the processing of transfer factor. None of the cattle in the herds has ever been fed any animal protein.
