Book review: Angels & Demons by Dan Brown

Angels & Demons is probably the best of all the Dan Brown books I've read. I must say that it was in my opinion far better than the Da Vinci Code!

If you are new to reading Dan Brown books, and plan on reading the Da Vinci Code, I highly recommend that you read Angels & Demons prior to reading the Da Vinci Code. Robert Langdon, the primary character of this book is a university professor who is strung through an exciting chain of events with a spectacular ending.

This book inspired the church to put out statements about the book stating that it is in deed a story and that it should be taken as such. I guess quite a few people were upset about how it depicted the church. Not being a religious person myself I didn't feel that it was offensive, but as I said, I'm not religious. It might have been sacrilege for all I know!

The book starts off as most of Dan Brown books do with a shocking first few pages that that really makes you wonder or sit confused. But of course as the book progresses you go, "Oh wow, now I get it!"

This book taught me quite a few things about the church, in terms on the conclave and various rituals performed by the church, which after the passing of the pope this year seems to have been quite accurate. Robert Langdon is tossed around a seemingly endless stream of events with symbology and hidden meanings all over the place which point him to his next goal.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in about three days, which for me is quite unheard of. If you enjoy a really easy to read, fast paced book, or are simply planning to later read the Da Vinci Code and want some background information on Robert Langdon, this book is an excellent read!

As far as a rating is concerned, I would give this book 4.5 out of 5.
