Stress is dangerous during pregnancy
May 5, 2005 04:04 PM EST | Pregnancy | Email to Friend
Stress is listed as one of the major risk factors for pre-term birth. High stress levels change hormone production, and that can trigger an early labor.
The key to a smooth pregnancy and labor rests in keeping stress levels from rising. Although that's easier said than done, there are simple ways women can control what happens after they enter the maternity ward.
Some women also add other females for extra support once they enter the delivery room. Studies show having a professional birth coach present during delivery reduces the likelihood of having a C- sections and helps foster a closer mother-child bond.
Some of the simple alternative care to stay relaxed during pregnancy:
- Massage
- Meditation
- Yoga
- Acupuncture
- Pilates
- Light exercise (with caution to protect the unborn baby)
