What Edmunds.com Says: Hopefully the cramped interior and underpowered engine will be rectified in the next incarnation of the Freelander.
What We Know: After disappointing sales since its introduction in 2002, Land Rover is preparing a completely redesigned Freelander for 2006. As the company has come to acknowledge that the U.S. is this vehicle's primary market, it will be seeking a great deal of input from domestic customers in refining this vehicle with a more "American" aesthetic. Land Rover executives have already heeded the complaints of many customers and plan to install a much stronger engine into the next version of the car. The whole package will be made more user-friendly and comfortable, although no major increase in the vehicle's overall size is expected. Even though the Freelander's base price of $27,495 will more or less remain the same, expect to see at least one higher-priced luxury model appear in the vehicle's lineup.
